Dr. Irwin’s interest in veterinary medicine has stemmed from a long love and respect for animals, as well as a love for science and medicine. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at Carleton University in 2018 and graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph in 2023. She was thrilled to move back to Ottawa and begin working at Cedarview Animal Hospital that same year.
Dr. Irwin loves working in such a dynamic field that promotes continued growth, and is excited to further her knowledge and skills to benefit her clients and patients. Her current professional interests include surgery, anesthesia, emergency medicine, and primary health care. She also very much enjoys mentoring aspiring veterinarians in their endeavours.
Although her focus is on treating canines and felines, Dr. Irwin has been fortunate to work with many other species of animals both prior to and during her veterinary education. She has had the opportunity to work with many of Ontario’s native wildlife species, (orphaned and/or injured) through volunteering she has done at the Rideau Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, the Ottawa Valley Wild Bird Care Centre, and the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre. She also had the opportunity to work with horses by volunteering at The Lanark County Therapeutic Riding Program.
In her free time, she loves exploring nature and is always excited to try out a new hobby. Some of her favourites include camping, canoeing, hiking, running, cycling, skiing, and scuba diving. She has recently welcomed a new puppy into her life, Ember, who will soon be a great companion for all of Dr. Irwin’s outdoor adventures!
